What is Theophobia?
Theophobia is the Fear of God or Religion in general and will be largely determined by whether or not you have had a religious up-bringing in which people are frequently taught to ‘fear god’ as a way of moderating their behaviours.
All phobias, regardless of what the feared object or circ*mstances are, produce feelings of anxiety and stress for the sufferer, and Theophobia is no different in this sense.
Whilst other people may struggle to understand a fear of God (particularly those without any religos beliefs) the person who suffers from Theophobia knows only too well that the anxious feelings they experience are real enough.
We completely understand this and will treat you and your Theophobia seriously.
Theophobia Symptoms
The symptoms of Theophobia are very similar to other specific phobias and will often include:
- Avoiding engaging in religious practices.
- Refusing to enter religious buildings.
- An elevated heart rate.
- A sense of dread about what might happen.
- Worrying that you might pass out.
- Feeling dizzy or disoriented.
- Having heart palpitations.
- Having a dry or sticky mouth.
- Hot sweats.
Theophobia symptoms tend to be automatic leaving the sufferer feeling like they have little or no control over the way they feel.
Theophobia could be the result of earlieradverse childhood experiencesthat can be linked to the phobic object or situation.
However, this is not always the case because phobias can also beinheritedassocially acquired beliefsfrom the people and environment in which you were brought up as a child.
