I really like this - it has a nice tart/sweet flavor. If I use an organic pear I do not bother peeling and sometimes I use an apple instead if that is what I have. Do not skip the ginger. I keep some peeled and sliced in the freezer so it is easy to throw in. I have also been known to use half and half if I don't have yogurt, but it is not as tart when I do this.

Excellent! I just made exactly per the recipe for the first time (yes, using a scale, which I like to do first time around anytime I try a new recipe), except no ice cubes. For oranges that was 2 and a half for me, and most of one pear which had seen better days:) The arugula taste comes though but muted, which I like because I am not a huge fan of arugula (using Trader Joe's baby arugula, more mature may be more pronounced), and it does not taste overly sweet, just fresh and virtuous:)

This is delicious, I will definitely make again.

I made this as written (other than just throwing in a whole orange vs the OJ because I only had one orange) and it was great!! Not to be one of those people who is like “you could swap out every ingredient in this recipe” but I tend to make smoothies with leftovers of what I have around. Seems the arugula, yogurt, and ginger are the non-negotiable ingredients here—you could probably sub an apple for the pear, and water or other juice for the OJ, and any nut or flax for the walnut.

I absolutely love this smoothie. I make substitutions when I don’t have the exact ingredients and it works every time. Always use cashew yogurt because that’s what I buy. Have used spinach, pecans, green apple. But I love the arugula taste. Just delicious.

Jean

Eager to make this, I added an unripe pear to the mix. I missed the sweetness of the fruit, so next time, I’ll wait. Still drinkable though. Perhaps a dash of honey would compensate for the decreased sugar in an unripe pear. Better yet, wait.

For this batch used 5oz arugula, 2 green apples, 1/2C walnut pieces, an inch of ginger, 5 mandarins. Nice alternative to our usual simple arugula/pear/flax smoothie. I used what was on hand. Added extra walnuts for creaminess because i just don’t like this particular green with yogurt, but prefer thicker smoothies at lunchtime. Tasted fine next day too

neel

Very nice and fresh. Didn’t have pear at disposal, so added red apple and a couple of dates instead. I went a little bit heavy on the ginger as I like the taste coming through the arugula. Finished with a bit of orange zest and coconut water.

I love each ingredient separately. Unfortunately, this was less than the sum of its parts. I'm sorry to say, me and the mister, we just didn't like it.

Courtney

This is my favorite smoothie ever. I have it almost every day. Some changes: I add fresh turmeric and about a half inch of fresh ginger, all unpeeled. I also add some unflavored protein powder and Greek yogurt. Delicious!

Used 2 TBSP roasted hazelnuts, 6 pieces ginger, some fresh turmeric, 1/2 cup yogurt, added 1-2 tsp honey (my preference). Enjoyed it!

I was eager to use my supply of beautiful arugula from the farmers market, but I had no oranges or pears. Instead, I substituted diluted o.j. concentrate and pineapple I had in the freezer for the fresh juice and pear the recipe calls for. Since I've never had all the suggested ingredients for this recipe at the same time, I still can't judge the intended outcome, but this variation was quite good, with a strong flavor of arugula and plenty of sweetness from the other ingredients.

LOVE this recipe. I substituted mango juice just because it was on hand.

I free-lanced this one, due to available ingredients & forgetfulness:
1/2 cup just-squeezed orange and tangerine juices
remaining pulp from orange and tangerine
small piece of orange peel, sliced thin
30 grams mix of arugula and kale
oops, forgot the walnuts!
half a medium banana
1 whole pear, peeled, cored and bad spots removed
chunk of ginger, about 1/2 inch thick, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup soy milk
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

It was good!

Kelarity

Great combination of flavours. We were out of walnuts so used pistachios instead.
