Does the Vegas Loop work? ›

The Boring Company started testing the system with volunteers in May 2021. The test demonstrated the new transport system could move up to about 4,400 passengers per hour with an end-to-time of about two minutes. In July 2021 the peak passenger flow was recorded at 1,355 passengers per hour.

The Vegas Loop is an underground tunnel that now takes passengers from the Las Vegas Convention Center to Resorts World Las Vegas: Casino Resort. All rides are given in Tesla electric vehicles such as the Model 3 Sedan. Rides will cost $1.50 one way or a $2.50 day pass.

The tunnel opened in October 2021. Standard Tesla vehicles with human drivers are used as shuttles, traveling at about 35 miles per hour (56 km/h). The service was described by Las Vegas Tourism as "an important step in the development of a game-changing transportation solution in Las Vegas".

Aside from $52 million paid by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for its tunnels, no public money is being used to fund the Vegas Loop. In fact, local governments are anticipating a windfall.

At the speed of one mile per hour and a rate of 100-feet per day, history was being made, slowly and methodically, 40-feet beneath the surface for the first segment of an expansive project that will soon be known as the “Vegas Loop.”

In the unlikely case that a fire does occur, the tunnel's redundant, bidirectional ventilation system will remove the smoke to allow passengers to safely evacuate.

The tunnel is open to anyone, but you can't take your car. Not just because most cars that aren't a Tesla Model Y wouldn't fit, but simply because this tunnel works like a subway. You can get to the tunnel, buy a ticket (or a subscription), and a fleet of Tesla cars will connect you from A to B.

Most people take a year to complete the Great Loop, although some have completed it in as little time as two months. The record time to complete the Great Loop is around six weeks, while others have taken their sweet time to explore the route and done it over a period of 12 years.

In contrast, Loop passengers travel directly to their destination, anywhere between Stop 1 to Stop 100, without stopping at the intermediate stations. Also, the express system allows Loop vehicles to travel faster than conventional subway cars (up to 150 mph vs. up to 65 mph).

How long does it take to do the grand loop? ›

The Great Loop has been done in as little as six weeks and in as much as 12 years. Traditionally, Loopers have spent about a year on the route. After all, it is a seasonal trip.

The length of the Strip is just under 4.5 miles in length one-way and is approximately 8.45 miles in total. To walk the entire Vegas Strip from the beginning, to end, and back, takes about four hours depending on your pace and how many stops you make along the way.
