How do you get ranked by 247 sports? ›

A five star rating is awarded to athletes who are graded with a 98–110 rating (. 98–1.00 Composite). For the 247Sports in-house ratings, five star ratings are given to the top 32 recruits in each recruiting class to mirror the 32 first round picks in the NFL Draft.

247Sports features two ratings for high school football and basketball recruits: its own in-house evaluations done by its scouting staff, and 247Sports Composite ratings. The Composite aggregates the public ratings for a prospect by the major recruiting services using a propriety algorithm.

A five-star prospect is deemed to be amongst the top 30 players nationally, ones that are expected to immediately contribute as freshmen regardless of where they sign. That puts them in the top 0.01% of that recruiting class.

Star ratings

Most recruiting services classify recruits by a number of "stars" with a higher number for more highly ranked prospects. Most services use 5 stars for the highest ranked recruits and only a few players at each position attain this rank.

The long odds start when players are recruits.

No matter what the exact number of senior high school players nationwide is, not more than one in 100 gets any kind of star rating.

This is particularly notable for five-star draftees who comprise 0.01% of high school senior players, but 8.21% of players selected in the NFL Draft. The mean for the distribution is 3.21, which closely follows the average star-rating of the teams competing in Super bowl.

Two-star prospects listed in various NCAA basketball recruiting rankings are expected to be able to play ball at a Division I school but is not expected to be a regular starter or to become a pro afterwards.

The Rankings are based on the Ranking Scores. Athletes are ranked in the Event and Overall Rankings by their Ranking Scores. The Ranking Score is the average of Performance Scores. In order to be ranked, athletes must collect a sufficient number of Performance Scores and some of them must come from Main Events.

Theory. Sports ratings systems use a variety of methods for rating teams, but the most prevalent method is called a power rating. The power rating of a team is a calculation of the team's strength relative to other teams in the same league or division.

The Trackwrestling ranking is based on how a wrestler has done in local, state, regional national, and national tournaments in the past 365 days. Duals are not factored into a wrestler's ranking. Tournament levels are averaged by how the wrestler finished in the bracket.
