Who was a meek woman in the Bible? ›

Mary is often portrayed as being meek and mild, yet she was one of the most courageous women in the Bible. At the age of 14, she was charged with giving birth to the son of God, which involved public shame due to her pregnancy occurring outside of wedlock, yet she accepted the gift and believed in the Lord.

Her beauty is that of "the hidden person of the heart." She has "the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit." Peter says that such a beauty is "very precious in the sight of God." It should also be precious to us. She is meek and humble—gentle and quiet.

The word “meek” is the Greek word praus, a word that describes the attitude of one who is friendly, warm, forbearing, patient, kind, and gentle. This would picture someone who is just the opposite of a person who is angry, temperamental, or given to outbursts of anger.

Meek in Greek: Humble, gentle, mild. The underlying Greek word for “meek” in Matthew 5:5 is πραΰς, transliterated into English as praus, and it generally means humble, gentle or mild. There are two other times in the New Testament where this particular word praus appears.

A spiritually meek person is not self-willed – not continually concerned with his own ways, ideas and wishes. They are willing to put themselves in second place and submit themselves to achieve what is good for others. Meekness is therefore the antithesis of self-will, self-interest, and self-assertiveness.

She is diligent, has a keen sense for business matters, is compassionate, is prepared for the future, is a good teacher, is dedicated to her family and above all else possesses the primary characteristic of biblical wisdom, the fear of the Lord."3. Her virtue shows as she shuns sinfulness.

She is trustworthy.

“The heart of her husband safely trusts in her; so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life” (Proverbs 31:11–12).

Meekness has been contrasted with humility alone insomuch as humility simply refers to an attitude towards oneself—a restraining of one's own power so as to allow room for others—whereas meekness refers to the treatment of others.

How to be meek and gentle? ›

For example, to be meek in marriage is to be humble, kind, gentle, accountable, comforting. It is to do what the Savior would do. Meekness is becoming Christlike.

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."

In 1 Timothy 2:9-10, Paul tells us, “I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.”

Jesus was the ultimate example of meek (Mth 11:29), and He's the exact opposite of a pushover. Moses, too, was described as incomparably meek. We read about it in Numbers 12. Moses is leading the nation of Israel and his older siblings launch a verbal attack against him, laced with envy, regarding his Cush*te wife.

Gentle: A meek woman is kind and considerate. She loves others deeply and cares for them. “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32).

She became a symbolic type of Jerusalem above. Sarah was a freewoman, a symbolic mother of the child of promise, a mother of heirs of the promises given by God to Abraham, and a mother of children who would enter into the New Covenant with God.

The adjective meek describes a person who is willing to go along with whatever other people want to do, like a meek classmate who won't speak up, even when he or she is treated unfairly. A meek person can also be humble, but these words aren't quite synonyms.
