The easiest recipe, a hack to dehydrate apples in air fryer instead of a fancy dehydrating machine. You’ll get crisp and sweet apple chips that are dusted with cinnamon with barely any effort. Less than 20 minutes, convenient, perfect for a healthy apple snack!

What are dehydrated apples in air fryer?
It basically means taking thinly sliced apples, and cooking them at a low temperature in the air fryer until most of the water has been removed from the apples, and they are a fraction of their original weight.
You typically need a dehydrating machine to dehydrate apples, but this recipe mimics the effect of dehydrated apple chips but in an air fryer. I also include an oven method if that’s more convenient!
Why dehydrate apples in air fryer:
![Dehydrate Apples in Air Fryer - Every Little Crumb (4) Dehydrate Apples in Air Fryer - Every Little Crumb (4)](https://i0.wp.com/everylittlecrumb.com/wp-content/uploads/dehydratedapplesinairfryer-9.jpg)
It’s a lot faster and easier than other methods. You’ll get crispy air fryer apple chips in the fraction of the time you’d use if oven baking.
Dehydrated apple chips are a lot healthier than other snacks. There’s no sugar added, they are gluten free, vegan, and have a good amount of fiber in them.
These make a good kid friendly snack, great for lunchboxes or on the go. Adults will love them too, great thing to munch on in between meals.

Apples: I like using any red firm apple, but you can use any type you prefer. You can mix it up and do one green and one red apple
Cinnamon: I love adding a pinch of cinnamon powder because the flavor works so well with apples. You can leave this out, or add even more spices. Try pumpkin pie spice, cloves, cardamom, ginger.
How to dehydrate apples using an air fryer:

- Preheat your air fryer to 150F (300C).
- Thinly slice the apples without peeling. If you want to, remove the core.
- Place in a large bowl, sprinkle cinnamon, and toss to evenly coat.
- Add the apple slices to air fryer basket without over crowding. I did this in two batches.
- Air fry 14-16 minutes, tossing the slices every 5 minutes or so.
- Remove to a platter and let them cool to crisp up further, repeating the cooking process with the second batch of apples.
What temperature to dehydrate apples in air fryer?
I like to go low and low, so I found that 150F (300C) was the perfect sweet spot. This will give you nicely dried apples that are light and have a nice crisp to them, but also a little of that nice leathery chew you can get from dried fruit.
What to do with dehydrated apples:

Snack on them as is! Or chop them up and use them to:
- Top cereal or oatmeal
- Top yogurt
- Add to a cheese plate
- Mix into homemade granola or trail mix
- Use them for a fun salad topping!
Dehydrating apples in an oven:
Heat the oven to 215 F (100C), and bake for 3 hours onto a baking sheet until dried out. Remove from the baking sheet to a wire cooling rack and cool completely.
Storing air fryer apple chips:
While properly dehydrated apples can be stored for up to 6 months, apple chips in air fryer differ because not all the moisture is removed from the apple slices. You can store leftover apple chips for up to one week at cool room temperature or in the fridge.
Recipe FAQs:
Do I have to core my apples?
I sliced the parts of the apple furthest from the core, so I didn’t have core in my apple slices but you can totally leave it in.
Can I make these in an oven?
Yes, see above “Dehydrating apples in an oven” or in the notes in the recipe card below.
Can I freeze apple chips?
No, I wouldn’t recommend it. The texture will change significantly and they’ll lose any crispness they have.
- Apple Zucchini Cake
- Apple Date Smoothie
- Vegan Caramel Apples
- Italian Apple Cake

Equipment
Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 2 large apples, I used red
- pinch cinnamon powder
Instructions
Preheat air fryer to 300 F (150C).
Thinly slice the apples, without peeling. Core them if desired. You can either slice with a mandolin or a very sharp knife to 1/8 inch thickness. Place all the apple slices in a bowl, then sprinkle with cinnamon and toss to coat thoroughly.
Add the apple slices to the air fryer without overcrowding. You may have to air fry in batches (I did two batches).
Air fry for 14-16 minutes, tossing the slices around every 5 minutes or so.
Once cooking time is over, remove onto a platter and let them cool at which point they'll crisp up further.
Enjoy right away or store tightly covered at cool room temperature or in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes
You can use any apples you like, I prefer red in this recipe for the extra sweetness. You really won’t need to add any sugar to the apple slices, as their sweetness gets concentrated once they lose moisture.
Make sure you slice the apples as thin as you can get so they crisp up nicely, and try to get them equal sizes so they all cook at the same time.
Don’t overcrowd the apples in the air fryer basket, or they’ll be soggy instead of crispy because they won’t be exposed to the hot air all over. I recommend cooking these in two batches.
Oven method: You can also make these in an oven. You’ll heat the oven to 215 F (100C), and bake for 3 hours onto a baking sheet until dried out. Remove from the baking sheet to a wire cooling rack and cool completely.
Storing leftovers:Leftovers will last in an air tight container for up to one week at cool room temperature or in the fridge.
Different seasonings:Feel free to add extra spices, like pumpkin pie spice, or nutmeg/cloves/ginger, etc.
