Carrot Orange Juice Recipe

If you’ve never had homemade carrot juice, you are in for a real treat. Because carrots are a naturally sweet vegetable, they are perfect for the base of a juice.

For this recipe, I added a few other ingredients including lemon, orange, and ginger to take this carrot juice recipe to the next level.

Carrot Juice Benefits

  • This fresh carrot juice recipe has almost 70% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C and over 100% of the recommended daily value for vitamin A. And, Vitamin C can benefit the immune system. It is a powerful antioxidant which can fight free radicals and oxidative stress.
  • Carrot juice benefits have been known to include: immune health, eye health, relieve constipation, reduce bad cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and more. Learn more about the health benefits of carrot juice.
  • The juice is sweet, slightly tangy, and so nutritious. It’s also a very hydrating recipe. In addition to drinking it plain, I suggest using it as the base of my Swiss Chard Smoothie or my Anti-Cancer Green Smoothie recipe to also get some leafy greens.

While you can just use carrots to make a homemade carrot juice, I think adding a few other ingredients makes it really special. The lemon and orange juices add brightness, while the ginger adds a little tang.

You likely already have these ingredients in your fridge or pantry. See my full clean eating shopping list.

  • Carrots contain beta carotene and are naturally sweet. They are also really affordable and easy to find at any time of year (see all of my tips for eating clean on a budget). Carrots have a high nutritional value and may even help reduce cholesterol levels. For all of these reasons, raw carrots are on my list of the best vegetables to juice.
  • Oranges add a familiar taste to this veggie juice. You can use whatever types of oranges you can get your hands on, including naval oranges, Valencia orange, Spanish oranges, or Cara Cara oranges.
  • Lemon brightens up the combined flavors.
  • Ginger adds a small kick of flavor to this yummy carrot juice combo. Ginger also has anti-inflammatory properties.

Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.

Making Homemade Juice

There are two main methods for making juice at home. You can use a juicer or you can use a blender and then strain the juice.

See below for details on making juice using either method.

How to Make Carrot Juice Using a Juicer

Step One

Wash all of your produce including the whole carrots. Cut it into pieces small enough to fit through the feeding tube of your juicer.

See my list of the best juicers for carrots.

Step Two

Feed the vegetable and fruit pieces into the feeding tube of your juicer.

Alternate hard and soft pieces of fruit and vegetable to help get the most juice out of your fruits and veggies.

Step Three

Serve your cup of carrot juice immediately. It is best served right after you make it.

Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.

How to Make Carrot Juice Without a Juicer

If you don’t have a juicer at your house, no problem! Here is how to make homemade carrot juice using a blender instead.

Step One

Wash all of your produce.

Cut all the produce into pieces small enough to fit through the feeding tube of your juicer.

Step Two

Combine the ingredients into the base of a high-speed blender.

You may need to include 1/4 – 1/2 cup of water to help the ingredients blender completely.

Step Three

Process on high for about 30-45 seconds.

Step Four

Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag, so that only the juice remains. Discard the pulp or save it for another use (like in these Carrot Crackers).

Or, if you prefer a smoothie using whole fruits, feel free to skip straining the juice. You’ll get all the benefits of eating whole fruits including getting the dietary fiber.

Either way, I hope you enjoy this delicious homemade carrot juice that is a good source of beta-carotene with flavors reminiscent of carrot cake. The fresh citrus fruits combined with the carrots and other ingredients is divine.

Carrot Juice Recipe Tips

  • Fresh vegetable juices and fruit juices should be consumed within 24-48 hours for the optimal nutrition. Store any leftovers in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.
  • This recipe is very forgiving. You can make changes to the amount of ginger you use. Or, feel free to add other ingredients including celery, cucumber, or apple.
  • You can also leave out the oranges, ginger, and lemon to make a pure 100% carrot juice with no other ingredients besides fresh carrots.

Carrot Juice FAQs

How do you make carrot juice in a blender?

To make fresh juice in a blender, you just need to add the same ingredients to a high-speed blender like aBlendtecor aVitamix, turn on high, and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag to catch the fiber, and then enjoy the juice. The juice pulp can be used to make my Carrot Pulp Crackers!

See my full guide for juicing with a Vitamix.

Can carrot juice turn your skin orange?

Yes, that can happen if you consume too much carrot juice. The reason is because carrot juice is so high in carotenoids, an antioxidant found in carrots. The change is skin tone is likely temporary, but you might want to ask your healthcare provider if it is safe for you.

Is juicing healthy?

Juice can most definitely be part of a healthy diet and is a great way to get more micronutrients. Fresh juice is especially high in vitamins. Most juice also contains some fiber, although most of it is taken out during the juicing process. A smaller amount of fiber can be beneficial for getting a lot of micronutrients without stressing the digestive system. Vegetable juice is also a great soft food.

For people who have problems with blood sugar levels, need to be on a sugar free diet, or who are pregnant or who have compromised immune systems, you should talk to your healthcare provider.

What is the best juicer?

I highly recommend using a masticating type juicer if you want to make juice a lot at home. It’s an investment, but it’s not outrageously expensive. I have an Omega juicer and am very happy with it.

Read more about how to pick a juicer that is perfect for your needs or see my specific article with my pick for the best juicer for carrots.

What does carrot juice do for your body?

Carrot juice is rich in beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, which is essential for eye health, immune system support, and skin maintenance. It also provides antioxidants that may help reduce the risk of various illnesses, including heart disease and certain types of cancer. Furthermore, the juice contains essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin C and potassium, which can promote overall health by supporting various bodily functions.

How much does 1x recipe make of juice and without adding water? I have a juicer 😀

    • Carrie Forrest, MPH in Nutrition August 18, 2022 @ 6:52 am Reply

It makes 2 large servings. The amount of liquid will depend on how effective your juicer is, but it should be between 8-12 ounces total.

    Hello,
This looks like very healthy and tasty juice. My question is, how many carrots are in a bunch? Is there a certain number in a bunch of carrots? Or do you mean ” a bunch” as in “a lot of carrots”? I like to be precise.
Thank you for your time and this lovely recipe.

    • Carrie Forrest, MPH in Nutrition June 6, 2021 @ 10:45 am Reply

Great question. You’ll need about a pound of carrots (4 large ones or 6-7 medium ones). 🙂
