As a Metroidvania, Blasphemous 2 expects you to explore the map as much as possible, return to old areas often, and generally be on the lookout for puzzles that you cannot deal with right now, but might in the future. The key to this style of gameplay lies in the movement abilities available to you.

At the start of the game, the Penitent One has little in the way of special abilities to use. He can jump and dash, and he has the abilities unique to his chosen starting weapon. That's it. As you progress through the game, however, you'll acquire a whole host of useful moves.

Ivy Of Ascension: Wall Climbing

Blasphemous 2: How To Unlock All Movement Abilities (1)

The first movement ability that you'll find in Blasphemous 2 is the ability to cling to walls and jump off them. This ability is located in Profundo Lamento, which is a small area beneath the City of the Blessed Name.

To access Profundo Lamento, simply keep heading to the right once you reach the City and then fall down the chasm in the centre of the area.

The route through the dungeon is linear, with any branching paths being short dead ends. You'll eventually reach the first of many statues that grant you a new item. This time, it's the Ivy of Ascension, which grants you the ability to cling to walls.

From here, you'll be treated to a short tutorial section that teaches you how to use this ability.

The Three Weapons

Blasphemous 2: How To Unlock All Movement Abilities (2)

There are three weapons in the game, and all three of them come with a specific movement ability. While you only begin with one, you'll be able to make a dash for the other two weapons as soon as you've obtained the Ivy of Ascension.

We have individual guides for each of these weapons, showing you the quickest route to grab them as soon as you've obtained the Ivy of Ascension.

Weapon

Location

Ability

Ruego Al Alba

Crown of Towers

When performed from a high height, the sword's ground slam attack (Weight of Sin) emits a shockwave that can break through certain walls.

Sarmiento & Centella

Palace of the Embroideries

When used to strike the floating statues holding mirrors, this weapon will let you warp forward.

Veredicto

Sacred Entombments

This weapon can be used to strike floating bells that emit a sound wave. This wave can summon platforms or temporarily destroy walls that you must walk through to remove permanently.

Passage Of Ash: Double Jump

Blasphemous 2: How To Unlock All Movement Abilities (3)

Requirements

Wall Climbing, All Three Weapons

Once you have all three weapons, you'll be able to take a detour to go get the Passage of Ash, which unlocks the Penitent One's double jump ability.

While you need the weapons found in the dungeons belonging to the three guardians you're tasked with defeating, you do not have to defeat those bosses to unlock double jump.

In fact, this ability can make some of those fights (specifically the one against Radamés) a lot easier to handle.

This ability is located in an area named Beneath Her Sacred Grounds, which is located underneath the Mother of Mothers area. The entrance to Mother of Mothers is found on the southeasternmost corner of Profundo Lamento.

In Mother of Mothers, you'll need to use all three weapons to progress through the area. Initially, you'll only need the flail and the rapiers to move around and complete puzzles, but the entrance to Beneath Her Sacred Grounds is blocked by a horizontal wall that only Ruego Al Alba can destroy.

Once you've reached Beneath Her Sacred Grounds, you'll have to make your way further down, avoiding spikes and performing some precise platforming. At the bottom, you'll be confronted by a boss: the Sentinel of the Emery. Beat him, and you'll find the Passage of Ash past the boss room.

Mercy Of The Wind: Air Dash

Blasphemous 2: How To Unlock All Movement Abilities (4)

Requirements

Double Jump

Defeat the following bosses: Radamés, Lesmes, and Orospina

While you didn't need to defeat the three guardians to acquire the double jump, you will need to beat them to unlock the next movement ability. This is because acquiring it requires that the massive city in the sky be lowered.

After beating the third guardian, make your way up to the Elevated Temples area, which is above the City of the Blessed Name.

There's a lift on the right side of the city that you can access easily with a simple Veredicto platforming challenge.

Make your way through the Elevated Temples, heading upwards whenever possible, to reach your destination: the Chapel of the Five Doves. You have no boss to fight here, but you will be given your next objective: to complete four more dungeons and defeat the bosses at the end of them.

The first of these new dungeons to appear is the Basilica of Absent Faces. To reach the dungeon, warp to the teleporter room in the centre of Crown of Towers. The path to the Basilica is directly above the warp room.

In the Basilica, your progress will be quickly halted by ghostly chains that you cannot get through - you'll probably have seen these throughout the rest of the map. Instead, pass right on through the bottom floor of the Basilica to reach a previously inaccessible part of Crown of Towers.

Make your way through this short section, and you'll come to the next statue that grants you an ability. This time, it's the Mercy of the Wind, which lets you perform an aerial dash or air dash.

Heading back towards the Basilica, you'll be given a short tutorial that teaches you the air dash isn't only useful for gaining more air time - you can also use it to break through those ghostly chains. You can head back to the Basilica and complete it now.

Scions' Protection: Angel Rings

Blasphemous 2: How To Unlock All Movement Abilities (5)

Requirements

Air Dash

Defeat the following bosses: Benedicta and Odón

The final movement ability in the game will take a little while to get to. Firstly, you'll need to defeat Benedicta in the Basilica of Absent Faces. This will trigger the appearance of the Sunken Cathedral, the next dungeon that requires your attention.

To access this dungeon, you'll need to jump over a very long gap (requiring a double jump and an air dash) in the Sea of Ink. Make your way through the dungeon and defeat the boss at the end of it: Odón.

Once you've defeated Odón, pass through his boss arena to find a hole you can drop through to reach the Labyrinth of Tides. Make your way through this tricky area, heading all the way to the left and then starting a long climb upwards, and you'll reach The Severed Tower, a dungeon dripping with wax and some of the most dangerous enemies in the game.

You'll find the final movement ability on the left side of the dungeon, above the teleporter room. You'll know you're in the right room when you enter it - there will be a huge dark space to the left. All you need to do is jump up to the ledge on the left, dash through the gap, and then get your reward.

Scions' Protection doesn't grant you a new 'move' per se, but it does make it so that you can reach new places. The small groups of sparkles that are dotted throughout the game will now be activated, letting you hold onto ornaments held by small cherubs. These provide access to new areas and are vital in the final dungeons, as well as to reach the boss of The Severed Tower.
